What belongs in a milestone plan?
Four things per stage: a name, an amount, a deadline, and an acceptance criterion you can answer with yes or no. "Design done" is too vague — "desktop and mobile design for all 6 pages, two rounds of revisions" is checkable.
How many milestones make sense?
Three to four for most projects. The first one covers concept or preparation (usually 20–30% of the budget), the last one covers handover. That way you're covered from day one.
